Nickel plating is a galvanic treatment that occurs through the conversion of anode nickels into nickel ions.
The nickel ions pass through the nickel-plating solution and discharge onto the surface of the nickel piece (cathode), where they are converted back into nickel metal.
In this process, when it occurs in an ideal solution, the nickel is transferred in such a way that an identical and uniform thickness is deposited on each part of the nickel-plating workpiece (cathode).
The result of galvanic treatment varies depending on the shape of the objects to be treated.
Careful design of the workpiece and correct positioning of these on the nickel-plating frames greatly helps to improve the uniformity of the deposit and consequently the characteristic that the cathode should achieve after treatment.
The galvanic treatment of nickel plating involves the conversion of nickel metal ions from the anode to nickel ions.
The nickel ions, passed into the nickel-plating solution, will return to nickel metal after being discharged onto the surface to be treated, which represents the cathode.
Ideally, the nickel should transfer onto the workpiece homogeneously, forming an equal thickness at all points; in reality, however, the geometry of the surface is composed of more prominent parts and more recessed parts, thus resulting in inhomogeneity of the layer. To avoid this, in addition to an in-depth study of the design of the workpiece, the use of specially designed frames is consolidated.

BLACK NICHEL (GUNMETAL)
This type of nickel plating has mainly decorative character, not possessing strong protective qualities mainly because of the thin deposits that are made with it and their nature.
In fact, the deposits are not pure nickel, but a mixture of nickel sulfide and other substances including zinc, sulfocyanide, etc. As a result, the adhesion is rather poor.
