Copper, its alloys and zinc alloys have a wax that is easy to oxidize, therefore direct electrodeposition of a light layer of gold for decorative purposes would not be able to offer good resistance to oxidation. This is why a light layer of nickel is applied before gold.
In this case, the treatment involves a first rinse in water and acid to remove the first layer of zinc, then we proceed with the nickel plating and final gilding.
Nickel plating is widely used in electroplating treatments both for the appearance it gives to objects, but above all for their protective value and for the hardness that it can guarantee depending on the bath used.
