Gold plating is widely used for the purpose of ennobling ornamental objects; in this case we use sufficiently protective thin coatings.

The treatment of the piece began with a preliminary cleaning of the piece and an acid degreasing. To ensure greater durability against abrasion, handling, atmospheric agents and to avoid the appearance of stains, the surface was coated with an intermediate layer of nickel before and after copper plating. The piece was then dried and finished with gold plating.

Copper, its alloys and zinc alloys have a wax that is easy to oxidize, therefore direct electrodeposition of a light layer of gold for decorative purposes would not be able to offer good resistance to oxidation. This is why a light layer of nickel is applied before gold.
